There is so much inaccurate information about semi-automatic rifles in the urban media that whenever we are able to get the facts published in a big-reach outlet such as the LA Times, whether in the print edition or online, we are pleased. Writing in "Outposts," an LA Times outdoors-oriented blog, Pete Thomas sets the record straight on so-called "assault weapons" by quoting extensively from the National Shooting Sports Foundation's press release last week containing accurate information about semi-automatic rifles and pointing out the futility of a renewed assault weapons ban, which Attorney General Eric Holder brought up during a news conference (see previous blog post).
Thomas's post included the important "These types of firearms, which are erroneously called assault weapons, are used by millions of Americans for hunting, sporting and personal defense purposes." As we all know, the term "assault weapons" is intentionally used by gun-ban advocates to create confusion among the public, and even traditionalist hunters and target shooters, between legally sold, semi-automatic rifles and look-a-like, fully automatic military versions.
It was unfortunate, however, that the blog post was illustrated with a 1996 file photo of an overweight man firing a .50 caliber rifle, thus playing into gun owner stereotypes.
Two steps forward, one step back . . .
It would be nice if everyone would stop playing games with all the gun bans...because it want stop crimminals from owning guns

Yeh they need to stop all the gun banning games..criminals will still own weapons.
